I am John Xenos, a wedding photographer based in Athens, Greece. This is my city — I know its light, its streets, its coastline and the way a wedding moves through them.
I photograph weddings in Athens, the Athenian Riviera and across Greece: photographs that feel natural, refined and connected to the place and the people who were there.
Tell me about your Athens weddingIf you are looking for a wedding photographer in Athens, you have probably already seen a lot of wedding photographs that look the same. The same poses. The same angles. The same moments arranged for the camera.
I do it differently. I don't want your wedding to stop so I can photograph it. I want to be close enough to see what is happening, without becoming part of the interruption. The photographs that end up mattering most are often the ones nobody noticed being taken.
Every wedding has its own rhythm, light and sense of place. Athens gives me all three: the hard light of midday, the stone and architecture of the city, the changing light of the Athenian Riviera, and those few minutes before sunset when everything softens. I use all of it.
How I photograph your wedding depends on the place, the season, the light and the way the day unfolds. When is the ceremony? When do you have a few minutes alone? When does the light change? When do the reception lights come on? Wedding photography is not only about what happens. It is also about when.
More on this in the journal: Wedding-day light in Greece · The best time to get married in Greece.
During the day I stay close without constantly directing you. You don't need to know how to pose, look at the camera all day, or repeat a moment until it looks perfect. I watch, I move with the day, and I wait.
The mother who turns away so nobody sees her cry. The friend laughing at exactly the wrong moment. The look between you just before the ceremony. The hug right after. Your guests dancing when nobody is thinking about the camera anymore. These are part of your wedding story.

Wedding photography is also about where it happens. The stone of an old church. The architecture of a venue. The sea at the end of the Athenian Riviera. The gardens of an estate. Light falling across a staircase. The details you spent months choosing. The place gives the wedding its character, and I want that character in your photographs.

I photograph weddings throughout Athens and Attica — the city centre, the Athenian Riviera and the estates around the wider Athens area. The Riviera is especially interesting for wedding photography because the environment can change completely within a few minutes: architecture, gardens, open sky and the sea, all in the same wedding story.
One of the most distinctive locations for wedding photography in Athens. The rock formations, the water and the natural surroundings are nothing like a traditional wedding estate. I photographed a wedding here that became one of my favourite stories of the year — the light reflected off the water at sunset gives the photographs a character you cannot reproduce anywhere else in Athens. Sounion is where Athens feels completely different. The coastline, the open horizon and the Temple of Poseidon give an unmistakable sense of place, especially in the evening light. I use the landscape naturally, rather than turning the day into a series of tourist photographs. See the Cape Sounion wedding →
Historic architecture, gardens and the landscape of southern Attica. Different photographic environments through the day — the quiet moments before the ceremony, the portraits, dinner, the late-night reception. Across a large estate the light changes constantly, and the photographs change with it. See the Pyrgos Melissourgou wedding →

A strong architectural character — stone, wood, gardens and open spaces, each with its own possibilities. The setting becomes part of the photographs without taking attention away from the couple and the people around them. See the Iliou Petra wedding →
I have also photographed weddings at Pyrgos Petreza, with its stone tower and its indoor and outdoor spaces, and at Island Art & Taste, where the Athenian Riviera and the evening light come straight into the photographs.
A wedding in Athens does not need a large estate or a seaside venue. The city itself becomes part of the story: the streets around Plaka, the old neighbourhoods, the small spaces outside a church, a rooftop with the Acropolis in the distance. Sometimes the photograph you remember most is not inside the venue at all, but a few metres away from it.
Tell me about your wedding.
Tell me about your Athens weddingAthens is also a destination wedding city. Couples arrive from all over the world to get married in Athens, on the Riviera and across Attica, bringing their families and friends with them. For me, a destination wedding is still a wedding first. The fact that you travelled to Greece should be part of the atmosphere, not something that takes over the photographs.
I also photograph destination weddings throughout Greece, from the mainland to the islands — Kimolos and Samos among them. If your wedding is in Athens, on an island or somewhere between the two, the photography is built around the way you want to experience the day.
The pre-wedding session is part of how I photograph every wedding. I'll always propose it, and nearly every couple says yes — because it gives us something the wedding day cannot: time. Time to walk, to talk, to get used to being photographed together. Time for me to see how you move and how you are with each other.
In Athens we can photograph it in the city, around the old neighbourhoods, near the Acropolis, along the coast — or somewhere completely different. It doesn't need to feel like a formal photo shoot. An afternoon somewhere you actually enjoy being is enough.
You see how I photograph. I see how you are together. By the wedding day the camera is no longer unfamiliar, and I am not a stranger you hired.
Wedding photography doesn't have to be completely documentary or completely posed. There are moments when a little direction makes sense — a portrait of the two of you in beautiful light, a few minutes away from the guests, a different position in the room, a word when you're not sure what to do with your hands.
But direction should help the moment, not replace it. I want your photographs to have movement, real expression and a sense of the place around you. The result should feel like your wedding, not a collection of poses from a catalogue.
A wedding can produce thousands of photographs. I don't deliver every frame. After the wedding I select the images that have a reason to exist in your gallery, remove the repetitions and the near-identical frames, and edit every photograph myself. Natural colour, clean light, a timeless approach — not a look built around whichever editing trend is popular this year.
The goal isn't more photographs. It is the right ones: a gallery that tells the whole day — the people, the atmosphere, the place, the quiet moments and the celebration. Something you can look at years from now and still feel how the day felt.
Search «wedding photographer Athens» and you get hundreds of photographers, studios and portfolios. The hard part is not finding someone who can take a good photograph. It is finding someone whose approach fits the way you want to experience your wedding. A few things I would look at:
Don't look only at the best ten photographs on a website. Ask for a complete wedding — preparation, ceremony, family, guests, portraits, reception, the late-night photographs. A portfolio shows what a photographer can produce. A complete wedding shows how they actually photograph a day. Mine are on this site: Lake Vouliagmeni, Cape Sounion, Pyrgos Melissourgou, Iliou Petra.
The person you speak with during booking should be the person on the wedding day. With me it is: I am the person you talk to, the person who photographs your wedding, and the person who edits your photographs.
Taking thousands of frames is easy. Choosing the right ones and editing them is the real work. I select and edit every photograph in your gallery myself, so the final collection has one point of view rather than everything that happened to be captured.
A good wedding photographer wants to know more than your ceremony location: how the day is structured, where the light will be, how much time you want alone together, what matters most to you. The photography should fit into the wedding. The wedding should not stop for the photography.
Yes. Athens is my home and my base. I photograph weddings throughout Athens, Attica and the Athenian Riviera, and I travel across Greece and abroad for destination weddings.
Yes. Couples from Greece and abroad who choose Athens, the Athenian Riviera or another part of Greece for their wedding.
Yes — across Greece, islands and mainland. Kimolos and Samos among them.
Yes. Most of the couples I photograph are international, and the whole process runs in English — from the first message to the final gallery.
It's part of how I photograph every wedding. I'll always propose it — and nearly every couple says yes, because it gives us time to get to know each other before the wedding day.
It depends on the length and flow of your wedding. I don't deliver every photograph I take; I select the images that tell the story and edit each one individually. A strong collection rather than thousands of similar frames.
No fixed packages, no price list. Tell me about your wedding — date, venue, what you have in mind — and I send one proposal built around your day.
Yes. The venues above are only some of the places I photograph in Athens and Attica. Send me your venue and your date, and I'll tell you how I would approach it.
I focus on photography. If you also want film, tell me and we plan it together.
The best way to understand a wedding photographer is a complete wedding, not a set of isolated portfolio images. Some of the weddings I have photographed in Athens and Attica — and elsewhere in Greece:
